4th - 6th December 2012, Naivasha, Kenya

The ICQN on Peace Education Workshop, entitled “Fostering a Community of Practice in Africa to Promote Peace through Education”, took place over three days from 4th-6th December 2012 in Naivasha, Kenya. Fifty-one delegates attended including four Ministers of Education and officials from 12 African ministries of education (Angola, Botswana, Cote d’Ivoire, DRC, Kenya, Liberia, Mozambique, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda). The workshop was organised and supported by partners including ADEA, the Ministry of Education of Kenya, the German BACKUP Initiative—Education in Africa, INEE through the INEE-GIZ Pan-African Knowledge Hub, and UNESCO. Additional partners in attendance included ANCEFA, GPE, UNICEF and UNHCR.

3th - 4th December 2012, Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire

As part of the establishment of the Working Group on socio-economic integration, a seminar was held on 3 and 4 December 2012 in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. 

During the work, ten countries made presentations, including Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Mali, Niger, Mau- ritius, Ghana, Chad, and Burkina Faso. The ADEA, the GIZ, the APESS and Coders4Africa also presented valuable experience.

On this basis, and in the light of the subsequent discussion, policies, programmes and initiatives were developed.

26th -28th November 2012, Flic en Flac, Mauritius

On 26-28 November 2012, ADEA, in collaboration with BMZ/GIZ and the Center for Phytotherapy Research and Development (CEPHYR) held a workshop on Education for Sustainable Development in Mauritius. The meeting brought together representatives of Ministries of Education, and Environment and universities/teacher training institutions from Benin, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Kenya, Mauritius, Lesotho, South Africa, Swaziland and Uganda, as well as officers from SADC, the Indian Ocean Commission and an Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) Youth network.
