Plenary Session: Mechanism for funding Education, a global public good

 

 

Storyline: Following the Presidential Roundtable on Financing Education which broadly supports the need for investment in education, it is necessary to outline the imperative and mechanisms for funding education, a global public good.  Funding of education is urgent and growing. A fundamental issue the speakers will be expected to speak to is the establishment of a sustainable, continental, education financing mechanism that will be immune to external shocks and responsive to continental education needs – how and what will be the operational modalities?

Objective: The objective is for Ministers to discuss and agree on mechanisms for significantly increasing investment in education and support the setting up of an African Education Fund.

Expected outcomes: Ministers issue a statement of commitment to and endorsement of the establishment of an African Education Fund

Expected outcome: Consensus on the roadmap for future actions by ADEA and other stakeholders.
