FAWE is a pan-African Non-Governmental Organization working in 32 African countries to empower girls and women through gender-responsive education. Instigated by ADEA’s Working Group on Female Participation (WGFP), FAWEwas created in 1992 by fiveAfrican women Ministers of Education to respond to the challenge of improving girls’ education in Africa. On the occasion of FAWE’s 20th Anniversary, ADEA pays a special tribute to FAWE’s unique achievements and work. FAWE’s cofounders, leaders, members, beneficiaries and partners tell the story.
